Canoes I have built

This canoe is a skin on frame craft. The skin is polyester cloth, normally used in large osmosis pumps. It was stretched on the frame with was made of steamed Ash ribs and Red Cedar longitudinals, tied together with artificial sinew. It was very light and a bit tippy! Sorry, the pics are crap. They were scanned from poor quality prints, the only pictures I have after my old computer died.






This one is built with Red Cedar strips and Alaskan Yellow Cedar veneers. Not an easy building methods, time consuming, but very light. The design is from a drawing in the book The bark Canoes & Skin Boats of North America by Edwin T Adney. It was a tidal river hunting canoe 15' 9" by 29" wide. I would have preferred birch bark, but couldn't find any over here in England!

I work as a part time woodworking tutor at Gorleston Headway. Headway is a charity and they do a really good job on behalf of people with brain injury.

He has been training this guy, Adrian Webster, for his role as Strider in the new (low budget) film The Hunt For Gollum.

He needed a skinning knife for the rabbit skinning scene, so he's got one of my neck knives for this! (I make these for them) Maybe I'll get famous now and I'll be able to inflate my prices!! Yay! Fame and forture in one!!

Bringing the blog up to date. It needs it!!!

Well, I haven't updated this blog for a while, but I have decided to do a bit more work on it. Since the last entry, I have made quite a few more knives and leather objects, so I'll put some more pictures up shortly.

I think I'll also put some pictures of a couple of canoes I have built in the past, also some bows and arrows I have made and possibly some carvings too.
