A recent commission

This knife was a recent commission and it was sent on time for Xmas. I am pleased to say my customer was very happy! The leather was dyed with iron oxide mixed with Neats foot oil, followed by a bit of antiquing paste. Once this was dried, I used a little shoe polish to bring the shine.

Spalted Hornbeam scales, horizontal carry sheath
The sheath is closed by two strong press studs
There is the option to carry it vertically too

  1. A nice one, O1, is it? The sheath is excellent, and a great idea it is, too...The scales are beautiful, did you stabilize them?

  3. Thanks you gents. It is an 01 blade, the cutting edge is 3 1/4", that's about 80mm. I didn't stabilize them in the modern way, ie high pressure silicon, but I soaked them for a couple of days in warm, boiled linseed oil. That chemically cures rather than dry by evaporation, hence the danger of the rags you use with boiled linsdeed oil heating up and bursting into flames!
