Long handled craft knife

Another tool I made recently is this knife based on the medieval quill  knife. the long handle, together with the short blade gives excellent control for general craft work, such as leather work and wood carving. It has a full tang blade, Yew scales and a poured pewter bolster. It is a strong knife, despite its slim looking handle.

  4. I recently saw a "shoulder knife" on www.mehr-als-werkzeug.de, with a handle long enough to be rested against the shoulder. Might do the trick for arduous and precise cutting and carving jobs like ornament lines?

  5. I've had a quick look from work at that long knife... Interesting, I think I'll have a go at making one, because of my wood & sign carvings, they could be quite useful. I know there are also some long handled ones from some Indonesians islanders, where the handle is cradled into the elbow crook, used for splitting rattan and such. Thanks Markus. I'll blog about it when I get around to making one.

  6. you've given me the pattern for what i think is the perfect scribe's knife. well, sort of. the blade would need to be about 6-7 mm narrower and the handle scales a bit thinner but blimey, it's the best thing i've seen yet for my purposes. i need to make this now!
