Oetzi, the 5,300-year-old "Iceman" mummy of the Alps,
lived for some time after being shot in the back by an arrow, scientists
said on Tuesday after using forensic technology to analyse his
preserved blood.
Contrary to a leading theory, Oetzi did not expire immediately from
his wounds, they reported in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface,
published by Britain's academy of sciences. You can read the new article here.
They made 'em tough in them days!
ReplyDeleteThank you Joel, I too have a great interest in the Iceman.

Tough, indeed, for he had several degenerative spine abrasions with which a modern guy would quite certainly not move an inch any more, but rely on a wheelchair instead. Seems tattoos serve a great purpose as painkillers, eh;-)?
ReplyDeleteKidding aside, I am fascinated by his world, and by the find for sure. Thanks a lot for sharing!
It takes a pretty major wound to kill someone on the spot. So the idea that he ran off a little ways doesn't seem all that surprising.
ReplyDeleteWhat Fimbulmyrk said, also is very true of a study of American Civil war draftees. They combed through the records of Union (Northern) Army recruits, and found out that in general, people were a mess.
