On illness and hope...

It's been a while since I posted anything on my blog. This is likely to continue erratically and the content of my blog is also likely to change over the weeks and months to come.

My wife was diagnosed recently as having ovarian cancer. Through blood takings, visits to the doctors, visits to the local hospital our life is being taken over by Cancer and becoming a Patient. More is to come and little of it likely to be easy. Chemotherapy is starting next week. She is now off sick from her work and we don't know how long this process will take or what the outcome will be. Many things are likely to change. How to continue to be a person and not become a patient and an illness, is something we've got to learn day by day now.

I'll find a bit of time to update the blog, but it may prove to be difficult at times but please bear with us.

  2. My prayers will be with you and your wife, Joel. My wife had a mastectomy five years ago and chose not to have chemo or radiation. Be careful with the doctors, they're often as dangerous as the disease.

    1. Thank you Gorges. I hope your wife is well and will continue to be. All the doctors and nurses we have been in contact with over this have been superb and also very kind. We have nothing but praise for them all.

  6. Joel, I do not exactly know what to say. I have been off the box for some time now and was not expecting this. I have experienced blows of fate in my life, too, and most of the people I love most in the world have, too. Sometimes one tends to think life is made from blows of fate and from suffering. But I have learned this is not always the case. Sometimes there is a light even in the darkest of all hours. I would be glad if you could see it still.

I cannot offer you concrete help, but if you need to talk, I will send you my phone number via email, and you have my email-adress. Of course, you and your family are always welcome to Germany. Sometimes you just have to get out a bit. I know I can speak for Drui also.

You are a great man, and your family is, too. I know that, if there is anything you can do, you will be able to manage it. We send you our care and concern.

    1. Thank you MOH, much appreciated. I don't know why your message went to "waiting to be moderated" as I am not using the moderation, I only just found it waiting there. Weird...

  9. I'd like to thank everybody for their kindness and taking the time to write. It is a help to feel the support and read the kind words, even as we are all scattered around the word.

We are trying to get back to some sort of normality, whatever "normal" is. I must drag myself back to the workshop too!
