HAND MADE KNIVES

This is my version of the Woodlore. With a 93 mm long blade, it is a tough little knife than can perform most Bushcraft tasks with ease.

Because I like the Nessmuk type of knife, I made this larger version. The knife is 260 mm long, the blade is 140 mm, 4 mm thick. As it is, it makes a great camp knife. By using the same blade but with a scandi grind, I think it would make a superb bush knife.

This is my version of the Grohman survival knife, with a scandi grind.
160 mm long, 4 mm thick 01 tool steel, full tang blade. A solid, heavy duty knife!

Copperhead. 3 mm 01 tool steel, 100 mm blade. Solid copper butt and pins, file work on the spine. Carved leather sheath.

A few interpretations of the famous Nessmuk knife.

This is the first knife I made.
Made 3 mm thick 01 tool steel,
it's got a 100 mm blade.

A shorter version, 500 mm blade

STUFF FOR SALE

Nothing for sale at the moment, but keep looking! I'll be adding stuff to it soon.

Carved wood hiking sticks

These two hiking sticks have wood spirits carved at the top end. Quite fun to carve.

That's the tools I used:

LINKS

The biggest bushcraft website in the uk. If you're looking for anything bushcraft, you'll find it there. Lots of knowledgeable people who are very generous in sharing their knowledge.

British Blades Forum
Interested in knife making? This is the best place to go. You'll find a lot of talented and creative people there who are happy to share their knowledge with you.

Canoe Building site

This is the site of John Clohesy. He offers family canoe building classes, canoe building weekends etc. I have met him and his family. They are nice people. You can also see pictures of some canoes I have built on his site.

Leatherwork

Well, I said I'd play it safe to start with.So here are some of my leatherwork and some knives I have made. I started making these things because Ray Mears forced me to do it!

Wet formed possible's pouch with leather carving. All well dressed Bushcrafters need a leather pouch to carry their stuff. And sometimes another bushcrafter sees it an asks if you'd make one for him. This is one of the one I made for someone.

A carved leather sheath. This is my first attempt a leather carving. The knife in there is calledCopperhead on account of the lump of copper used for the pommel.

A small pouch, based on a 18th century hunting pouch. The mobile is not 18th century. It is also dead! Having drowned in the toilet shortly after the photo was taken. RIP mobile...

Double dangler sheath for my Woodlore interpretation.

Slightly modified to fit the Bushcraft style handle on my Nessmuk knife design.

I designed this sheath to fit my first Nessmuk.

Neck knife sheath.

Another sheath, for the survival knife.

My first sheath, to go with my first knife. This is the first. I wanted a knife, but I didn't want to slavishly copy the Woodlore. I turned out pretty good for a first knife. Well, I trained as a toolmakers when I was a young man.

Welcome to my new blog

I have thought a while about writing a blog. My intentions were that I'd like to try and keep a record, as sort of diary, about my life. So this is goint to be it. I'll go with the flow and see where it leads me. I'll probably start by playing safe and writting about what I do rather than what I think. It's safer!

Anyway, enjoy it, if you can, whoever reads it, if anyone reads it that is!
